Login Scripts

By techgirl2 ·
I have an inventory batch file that I need to run at login for a specific group of users. I added a new group under NWAdmin\Add Groups and inserted the names of the users to run the batch file. Also, gave them rights to the server\vol\directory\file that the batch file is located in. How and where do I add the script to launch the batch file for this group of users at login?? Users are located in four different containers and we do not use individual login scrips. Do I add the IF...Then statement to launch the batch file, under NWAdmin\Search\new group (that I setup) or NWAdmin\Search\server that batch file is located on? I can't find the option to add a script under either one of these objects, so I'm assuming neither one is the correct place? I assumed the script should be added on the server where the batch file is located and write the IF...Then statment to reference the group of users to run the batch file at logon. I'm just not sure how\where to place the script. Thanks...

Login Scripts

The only objects with login scripts are containers, users and profiles. Since your users are spread out over several containers, I would consider creating a profile, setting up the login script for it, and adding users as members of the profile. Note that profile scripts execute after the containers script and before the user script.

I agree with the first answer - users spread across multiple containers - that's what profile scripts are for.

You could use container scripts, but then you would need to add the same iff....then statement to every container that owns the user accounts.

The script should be added in the container that HOLD the other containers where the users are defined. For better admin purposes, the group should be defined in the same container.

|---OU1
|---OUA
| |---USER1| |---USER2
|
|---OUB
|---USER3
|---USER4
Both the group and script should be placed under OU1
Create in OU1 a group named GRP1 and add user1 to 4
In OU1's login script add the following

IF MEMBER OF "GRP1" THEN
#MAP J:=GNS/SYS:\COLD
... MORE INSTRUCTIONS...
END

Good Luck
