logon computers with 2 diffrent subnets

by jay . Updated 24 years, 8 months ago

I have a main office and a branch office. I am trying to setup a proxy server and have them logon to our server and share files and printers. I am testing this 1 computer at each office. The computer at the main office is:
Windows 2000 server
ip: 10.15.1.4
Subnet: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 10.15.2.254
Domain: OTCU
I also have 2 other network cards on this machine. One is for the proxy server. The other is disabled for now.

The branch office computer:
Windows 2000 professonal
ip: 10.15.2.1
subnet: 255.255.255.0
gateway: 10.15.2.254

I created a VPN with no problem and the computer can logon to my server. I can also set up the proxy server and have it work. But I can get both to work at the same time. If I start the VPN it kills the proxy.

I can ping to the computer just fine. I can also connect using PCAnywhere. When I do a tracert from 10.15.1.4 to 10.15.2.1 i get the following:

10.15.1.254
10.254.254.1
10.15.2.1

It takes 3 hops to get there. Our connection is piggie backed off another company’s network. I talked to that company and they said they set up the routers to talk both subnets. So why can’t I just logon to my server form the branch computer without the VPN? Or how do I get the VPN and the internetaccess to work at the same time? Help!

Thanks.
