Logon proces XP changed; suddenly i need to logon twice.

By Gregory Peck ·
Since a couple of days the logon proces has changed.
After a successfull logon the machine seems to startup normally, but after Explorer has started and the desktop becomes visible - but befor any icons are displayed - the proces halts and restarts with a new logon screen. After that the logon proces looks normally.

I am worried that it is a keylogger or something walwarish. Could it have something to do with an infection:
- recent: with /win32/Zlob.JN which was discovered and cured by MsDefender (checked by AVG)
- or may be with the installation of BGInfo?

Anyone might recognize this problem and give some hints in resolving this.

Celeron 3.2Ghz, XPsp2, IE8.

"recent: with /win32/Zlob.JN which was discovered and cured by MsDefender (checked by AVG)"...i assumed by this that you meant you ran MsDefender and AVG, was I correct in that assumtion? If you have not run those programs in safe mode, please try it. Also download and install Malwarebytes and also run it in safe mode. I hope my answer was more clear this time. Point of interest; as a rule, we answer question here in the open forum not through peer mail. This protects you in case someone mistakenly gives you an answer that might not be quite right; it allows other members to possibly catch that mistake and correct it. Let us know if that works out for you.

I also like to use Spy Bot S&amp as well just in case there is something nasty involved.

ok - thanks for the hint

I ran MSdefender in save mode. What a slow down; so it took about 11 hours to complete a full scan but there were no probs found.

The initial problem of double logonscreens has vanished. For now I leave it with that.
