logon script "access denied"

By McCabe ·
Part of a logon script attempts to copy the lmhosts file to the etc directory on the target computer. When I test the logon script, I get an "access denied" line inthe script text as it tries to copy it. I have copied other items previous to this and I cant figure out what is dening this copy process.

Your problem is a definite permissions problem. What I want to ask is...
Can you Run the script manually? But when the script runs on a 'logon' attempt, you get your error?

If this is the case, then it could be the 'system' user does not have the permissions needed for accessing the 'etc' folder.

If the script can be run manually, YOU have the needed permissions. But if it does not run when trying a 'login' then the 'system' is the user that is running the script. It may not have the needed permissions. Check it out.

best of luck

I agree that it has to be permissions -now I have to go in and find out what they are. Thanks for your assistance. The learning never stops !

I checked the permissions according to TechNet the permissions for "everyone" should be set to read. I tried every combo of permission on the Netlogon share to no avail.

It does sound like a permission issue, the user would have to have write ability depending on your script. I may be that your script is the issue, i.e. how have you writing it to copy the lmhost file?
