Logon Script causes Illegal operation an

By robinarm ·
I have a Win95b machine on a NT4 network which works fine most of the time. One logon script however causes an illegal operation and forces the machine to hang until reset. Other logon scripts work perfectly well on this machine and the script in question works fine on other machines - just not on this one PC. The script simply pulls the networked time settings & maps drives.

Any ideas????

Make sure that you are deleting any previous drive mappings before you re-map the drives. For example, if you have a line like "net use h: \\server\share" then add "net use h: /delete" before that line to delete anything that might have been previously mapped to that drive letter. Also, right-click on Network Neighborhood, select Properties, and make sure that the Primary Network Logon is set to Client for Microsoft Networks.

I had this happen once on our network and the item in questions was having IPX/SPX installed, whereas the network only recognized NetBEUI and TCP/IP.

I'd say to remove IPX if you have it installed, or re-add it back, reboot and remove it by unbinding it from the adapter instead of removeing it directory from the network settings. Also, make sure that client for netware isn't installed also, removing IPX should get rid of that also, but just to be safe...

If all else fails at that pointI'd be rebuilding my network stack.
