Logon script won't run from 2000 servre

By santhony ·
I cant seem to get a logon script to run from a 2000 server on 95/98 stations. I've read anything I can find and searched the net. Please send me any info you may have or a set by step procedure.

Have you tried running them throug Policies?
Active directory Users, Properties, Group Policies, Edit, Computer Configuration. There are also Scripts under the User Settings. If you try and ADD a Script, then you can see the folder that you need to save and prepare your scripts.

Is it a pure 2000 network or a mix with NT servers? That is important!
If it is a pure W2K network, use the wscript.exe for windows interface or cscript.exe for command line interface.

Good luck!

Hey there !!

what you need is something wich can identify which OS / operating system you are using

@echo off
REM Batch file to detect OS
REM ----------------------------------
if Windows_NT == %OS% goto WINNT
echo You are not running Windows NT (Windows 95/98 perhaps?)
goto END

:WINNT
gettype.exe

if errorlevel=9 goto FILENOTFOUND

echo You are running Windows NT.
echo More Specifically:
echo.

if ERRORLEVEL=8 goto EIGHT
if ERRORLEVEL=7 goto SEVEN
if ERRORLEVEL=6 goto SIX
if ERRORLEVEL=5 goto FIVE
if ERRORLEVEL=4 goto FOUR
if ERRORLEVEL=3 goto THREE
if ERRORLEVEL=2 goto TWO
if ERRORLEVEL=1 goto ONE

look up in www.microsoft.com and search for

q190899 in the search field and find the rest.

kind regards

If you've added the Active Directory client to your Win9x machines, open Group Policy on a DC, go to User Configuration/Windows Settings/Scripts (logon/logoff)/logon to add your script (if it's a BAT-file, specify CMD.EXE as the command to run and add /C <script> as parameters - I think)
If you want to run NETLOGON-stye scripts for downlevel clients, locate the folder <sysvol>\SYSVOL\<domain>\scripts and put your script there. This folder is shared as NETLOGON :-)
