Logon scripts and updating Virus files

By donalconlon ·
Hi,
I would like to know how I can use a logon script to check the virus pattern files and update them if necessary. We use Mcafee on our systems. At the moment it is set up to check every time the Pc is switched on but a lot of users never power their PC down so it would be better to check every time they logon. Thanks

Donal

How about placing Mcafee in the "startup" folder?

I call this batch file from my login script, and edit it whenever I put a new Superdat file in the mcafee folder in my netlogon share:

IF EXIST Z:\VIRUSSCN\EXTRA.DAT COPY Z:\VIRUSSCN\EXTRA.DAT C:\PROGRA~1\NETWOR~1\MCAFEE~1 /V >NUL
IF NOT EXIST C:\PROGRA~1\NETWOR~1\MCAFEE~1\SCAN.EXE GOTO VIRUSDONE
rem ****************************************edit next line and add a delete on update
IF EXIST C:\PROGRA~1\NETWOR~1\SDAT4137.EXE GOTO VIRUSDONE
DEL C:\PROGRA~1\NETWOR~1\SDAT*.EXE
ECHO.
ECHO ***PLEASE WAIT WHILE YOUR VIRUSSCAN FILES ARE UPDATED***
ECHO.
ECHO ***SYSTEM MAY REBOOT IF NEEDED***
ECHO.
REM *****************************************edit next 2 lines on update
XCOPY Z:\VIRUSSCN\SDAT4137.EXE C:\PROGRA~1\NETWOR~1 /V /Y >NUL
C:\PROGRA~1\NETWOR~1\SDAT4137.EXE /SILENT /F /PROMPT
:VIRUSDONE
