Long Bootup Time

By daniel ·
A coworker was given a Compaq Deskpro 166 with 96 MB RAM, that takes a very long time to boot up. I formatted the harddrive and was going to reinstall the OS and get rid of all the junk on the harddrive. However, upon boot up, it goes to a screen that says Compaq Deskpro and hangs there for a couple of minutes. How would I get rid of that Compaq screen that is causing the holdup? I was thinking I may have to update the BIOS?

Thanks,
Dan

Hi.
If you say that formatted the disk, do you created the compaq partition?, maybe you have to download the softpack's from compaq to rebuild the system partition.

use fdisk first to get rid of all partitions
then if you are installing 98 create a primary dos partition and then format it if it is win2k don't even create a partition then boot from win2k cd.

This was a common problem with that particular machine. I remember that there was a bios flash that would solve it. You should be able to find the exact flash at www.compaq.com/support.
