Long Filenames and Batch files.

By hgreen ·
I have a Novell 3.2 network with file servers in two buildings. I have been using scheduled tasks in Win98 to kickoff batch files for nightly backups from one server to another. I now have a need to enable long filenames on the servers. How do I retain the batch file functionality and not have filenames converted to the 8.3 format during the backup process?

You have to do this sequence for long name support on Novell 3.2;
1. LOAD OS2.NAM
2. At the console prompt, ADD NAME SPACE OS2 TO VOLUME <VOLUME_NAME>
3. Place "Load os2" in the startup.ncf

That enables long filenames on a server. The problem is how to setup a proceedure for unattended backups that will maintain long filenames. Before long filenames, this was accomplished with a batch file. With long filenames enabled, the batch file (since it uses DOS commands) causes long filenames to be converted to 8.3 format in the backup.
