Long wait when opening doc w/OLE

By J9 ·
We have a 35 page document on our network with many hyperlinks and OLE.

My 2000 o/s PC's handle bringing it up just fine but the Win 95 PC's take up to 3x as long to execute.

Any ideas as to how I can improve performance on the 95 stations?

Long wait when opening doc w/OLE

The hyperlinks don't cause the slowdown, it's the linked documents because (for example) Word has to load Excel in order to display the spreadsheets, or PowerPoint to display the slides. If your hard disks are thrashing a lot when you open the documents, add memory. It won't help the first time, as the applications must get loaded into memory then, but subsequent times will be faster with less swapping out to disk.

Have already loaded the additional memory and was aware of potential performance gain after the 1st load.

What is it about the 2000 o/s though that makes it able to load so much faster?

Improvement by adding memory was your best answer and you rejected that suggestion for a detailed answer why 2000 operates faster.
Microsoft went to great lengths to produce a network operating system and it gave the business Win2K,Win95 was not developed as a network operating system.
