Looking for a PDF to TIF converter

By sfisher ·
I'm needing a program that will convert a TIF file into an OCR-ed (selectable text) TIF file that doesn't require admin rights. We're currently using a prog called "PDF to Image Converter" but it requires admin rights to run it and I don't want to give the users admin rights just for that.

TIA!

Did you mean PDF converter from Nuance?

by markp24 In reply to Looking for a PDF to TIF ...

if you dont have that you may want to try that, we use it here for users with out admin rights on their local machine (we do install int as an admin, then run it as a user)

i have never used this but there are free ones http://www.freepdfconvert.com/. If its confidential i would not recommend anything tother that locally installed software though.

Take a look at eCopy Paperworks.

We use it for similar purposes.

I don't think IrfanView requires admin rights.

You will also need the specific plugin
http://www.irfanview.info/plugins/kadmos/setup_kadmos_irfanview_us.exe
which isn't included in the regular plugin-pack.
Also, you will need to install Ghostscript so Irfanview can read the PDFs.

Any further instructions are available at the Irfanview site, if needed. GS comes with instructions as well, if needed, and are also available at its site

OCR?

Does one of those plug-ins cover the stated OCR requirement?

Yes.

by seanferd In reply to OCR?

The one I linked to is the OCR-only plugin which must be downloaded separately from the plugin-pack installer. There are a few plugins for Irfanview which are not packaged in the collection, this being one of them. (But you can download any plugin individually, if desired.)

edit:
So, I've been playing around with it, since I already know the menu system. You can extract all pages from the PDF as individual TIFs, or convert straight to a multi-page TIF.

Everything important to the subject at hand is under the Options menu.
Options → Extract all frames...
Options → Multipage Images → Create Multipage TIF...
Options → Start OCR

And not to forget,
File → Batch Conversion/Rename

Hope this helps if you were interested in playing around with it.

Just in case this was abandoned because we couldn't find it?
