looking for screen app

By haxdnoob ·
im put through the arduous task of updating my video card drivers and i heard before that there is some kind of computer program that remembers your desktops' icon layout and it either keeps them there, or it lets you revert to that very same layout if you changed something you don't like

does anyone else know of the program im talking about (it either had the word fence in it, or it was a play on words with "fence")

Well, there is Fences.

But there is a lot more to it than remembering icon positions. It may satisfy your needs.

Simpler: Have you turned off Auto Arrange for your Desktop?

And there are other bits of software which will do exactly what you want. http://www.google.com/search?ie=UTF-8&oe=utf-8&q=remember+desktop+icon+position

e.g., several here:

i didn't have auto arrange activated; i just found this link here

http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/save-and-restore-desktop-icon-layout-in-windows-vista/

it looks promising, but im wondering if when i want to uninstall it, is there a way to either modify the layout registry file to delete the registry entries, or will i have to manually seek them out and delete them AND the layout.dll file?

Ah. No reason to uninstall that.

It's a MS Windows Resource Kit tweak. It just backs up you icon layout.

Do not delete layout.dll - it is an operating system file!
