Looking for software to manage WLAN adapters from different manufacturers

By Pruduch ·
Does anybody know if there is a software which can be used to manage WLAN adapters from different manufacturers? I'm using a Notebook with Windows XP professional SP3. It's a IBM/Lenovo with a built-in Intel 2200bg WLAN adapter but I want to connect to a 802.11n router using the faster 11n-connection so I tried to install the Netgear WNDA3100 USB WLAN adapter stick. Unfortunately the Netgear software causes a bluescreen and is not usable. Thus I tried to install just the drivers for the USB stick. They work fine, I'm now able to use both WLAN adapters as needed BUT at the moment I have to use the USB stick to be managed from Windows where I'm unable to check whether the 802.11n connection is established and which band is used (2.4GHz or 5GHz).
Thus I want to replace the Netgear junk and am looking for an universal software which is able to manage a WLAN adapter from any manufacturer and supports 802.11n. Unfortunately the Intel software can only manage its Intel 2200bg adapter and doesn't recognize the USB stick.
I'm not looking for a new driver: the driver of the Netgear WNDA3100 is an Atheros v3.0.0.131 and works well.
Btw. Netgear support wasn't able to solve this yet and wasn't very helpful so far.
Thanks for comments.
