Looking for some insight.
I started in the civilian world and continued my IT training and career serving in the U.S. Marine Corps. I am once again in the civilian world.
I am currently working at a ~$4.5 billion a year corporation. I am not all that thrilled with the position I currently hold (pay/hours/etc. are good...the job itself isn't very challenging). The future opportunities seem to be fantastic though.
Now, I find myself with the opportunity to switch gears once again and go back to working for Uncle Sam (for the Veteran's Affairs). For those of you familiar with the "General Schedule" (GS) pay scale, I am looking at a GS-12/13 position.
I would love to hear from those of you that have worked in both the civilian world and civil service to see what your pros and cons are.
A little background on me to give you some insight...
I'll be 30 this year. I'm married with a 15-month-old son and another child due next March (very excited about this!!).
I take the whole, "Work to live, not live to work" credo pretty seriously. My family is, obviously, the most important thing to me. I care much more about quality time with the family and job satisfaction than how much I make and having prestigious titles.
Thanks to all in advance!
