Lookup MX record

By ehoffman ·
I read about this DIG MX from the command line you can use to lookup the mx records for a domain name, and we need to do so to verify some settings across some domains. It appears to be a *nix tool? Is there one similar for Win2000 to use, or a command line built in I am missing to give me that listing??

nslookup is the default toll for MS (as far as i'm aware??)It can definately query specific record types. Simply go to a command prompt type nslookup and enter. command line "ls t- MX domainname" will list all mx records in the specified domain. There are quite a few options here. If you type "help" while in the nslookup function, you will see them. You can pipe results to file and change the server you are quering also. Hope this helps

I use SamSpade to do a DIG on Windows machines.
www.samspade.org

You can do the lookups from the website, or you can download the SamSpade tool. I use this tool myself. It is very useful for WHOIS, DIG, and IP Range identification.

hope this helps
