loosing network conection

By jon_w31 ·
Win ME on laptop and desktop. Systems linked via crossover cable and networked using network setup wizard.
The network worked fine. Internet connection sharing also working ok.
problem is after a period of time the network disconects for no apparant reason? This happens about 3 times a day. Restarting the laptop sometimes reconects the network?
Files are visible on the host from the client but if i open one the conection is lost during or just after the file transfer.
Power saving features are turned off on both machines. Any sugestions would be appreciated
Thanks

first how did you assign the ip address ? Auto or manual ? If you're using auto try to change it to manually assign and key in the ip address within the same range and also both pc must share files in order to see each other (not always) , and is the colour coding of your cross cable standard ? for none standard cross cable it can use for very short distance .

I had this problem a while back, and the problem was driver related. When I contacted my NIC manufacturer they told me that the driver was buggy and had me to download a new version. After the download the problem went away.
