Lose DSL signal when print

By tmbearden ·
I am running Win98 and Bellsoouth DSL 2wire networking. I installed a HP Deskjet 985cse printer and everytime I print a document, I lose the DSL connection. The DSL is connected with a HPNA USB connection and the printer is a parallel connection. I can unplug the USB or restart and get the DSL signal back. I only lose the DSL connection when the printer starts printing.

Usb modems are notorius for connection problems (imho). If there is an ethernet port on the modem I would suggest using that instead. Enet cards are fairly inexpensive these days. You can pick them up for under $20.

Check for the following conditions:
1. Are there any hardware conflicts in Device Manager?
2. How close together are the modem and the printer? You may need to move the printer. Some devices can cause interference that may in turn cause you to lose signal (the industry calls it 'sync')
3. Along the same lines, make sure that your phone cord does not exceed 10 feet and that you have installed all line filters.

Feel free to email me if you need anything else. I hope this helps!

Usb modems are notorius for connection problems. If there is an RJ 45 port on the modem use that instead ethernet cards are pretty cheap rite now. You can pick them up forbetween 10 to 20 bucks.
plus you may wanna check in device manager for conflicts.. probably better too use dr watson to see what the real problem is...
