lose my root passwd

Hi,,
I have windows NT server in my office but accidently I lost my passwd of rood user.. any one give me right answer ..how I recover that passwd or loging to another new user and change my root passwd.. and how is linux passwd I recover coz my friend have linux proxy server and his senior gone now ..and now he is a administrator. but he is not know about the root passwd.please help us..
