System Running Win 98 SE loses available ram
while sitting with pipes screensaver running.
Some software will not release all memory when closed, however this system will lose ram just running Windows and the pipes screen ( or any other) saver.
Any ideas on what may be taking up all the free ram space?
Unit is currently running memstatxp and system resouce meter. Both show the same memory leakage.
Board is ASUS TUV4X with 256K ram. ATI video 32 mb.

I would suggest that you turn off all screen savers and sit there and see if there are any continuing ram leaks.

If yes, then you might want to pull and swap ram. As you may have a hardware/ram problem as the computer heats up.

If no, then it is the software.

While reading the the MS knowledge base articles for Win 2000 Pro, I came across an issue involving screen savers. 3D screensavers, as well as regular screen savers, can cause all kinds of havoc with your system-- Microsoft's answer--for the most reliable PC operation--just run a blank screensaver. Not exciting or glamorous, but your system will work better. Although the pipes screen saver is not mentioned in this article, perhaps this MS site will help you http://search.support.microsoft.com/search/nlsearch.aspx?Catalog=LCID%3d1033%26CDID%3dEN-US-KB%26PRODLISTSRC%3dON&Product=w98&Query=3D%2520screen%2520savers&Queryc=3D+screen+savers&REF=false&srchstep=0&KeywordType=ALL&Titles=false&numDays=&maxResults=25
