Loss of profile of user in NT4

By Zilog ·
All personal settings for the programs I use are lost when I log on as user.
All returned to the default values...
As Administrator I still have my settings as if nothing happened.
To access the LAN I have to log on as a user.
Before taking drastic steps I like to know if someone else had similar problems or have an idea on what to do.
I have Admin rights and use Win NT 4 with SP6
Thanks Folks

Loss of profile of user in NT4

If you want any user who logs into a NT workstation to have a pre defined profile instead of the default profile, then you need to overwrite the default user profile with a pre configured profile.
Here is what you do.
Create a new user account with admin rights.
Log in as that user. In the \Winnt\profiles folder, copy the contents of the administrator folder (assuming the administrator user has the pre defined settings you want) to the default user folder.
Delete any domain user profiles you see.
Now, when you log in as a domain user, you will receive the pre configured default profile.

Thank you, but even your solutions didn't work.
The starnge thing is that allmost all programs start up with default settings, allthough some changes (in word 95)are saved.
Excel 97 at the contrary, even forgets changes in macros and menus.
I even tried to reinstall NT4 over the installed version, but no change.

Thanks any way...

Sounds like you're using roaming profiles and downloading a mandatory profile. Look in the C:\WINNT\Profiles\%username$ directory and verify that you have a file called ntuser.dat NOT ntuser.man. If so rename it on the server and all is well.

Good Luck

There is no roaming profile. NTuser.dat is present.
Thank you for your answer.
