Lost 1st DC, didn’t transfer GC

I?d two Win2000 DC, replicating well. The firstone that was brougth online got hit by several viruses uninstalling antivirus and damaging so many things I had to reformat. I was not able to transfer the Global Catalog Service to the other DC. I have the new installation ready, however I am not able to make the servers synchronize again. Is there anyway I can copy all AD information from the second server on the firstone (including passwords) or how in the world can this brandnew installation server can be joined into the domain. If you try to do so by running dcpromo it will not recognize the only DC available. My guess is that somehow it got some damage too.
