Lost Administrator

I am the administrator of my home computer, I have changed my protected password alot to keep my teens from accessing unapproved websites. I reset it about a month ago and can’t remember what I set it as. The hint that I used was very vague, so vague in fact, that it doesn’t help me to recover my protected password. Is there anyway besides taking it to a programmer to reset or recover the administrators protected password, and will I lose all my data?
