lost drive

The problem seems to be the hard drive keeps dissapearing off the system. I managed after many restarts to get it to work but had to re-install Windows Me over the top of the previous installation to try and keep as much data as I could. hang and eventually crashed with a message “could not write to disk data may be lost” and the only way to get back to anyting was to reboot.

On reboot it could not find the HD, not even after several reboots, each time having to boot from floppy. Even doing a fdisk and a fdisk /mbr there was still no sign of the hard drive.

Any ideas as I’m totally clueless on this one!
