lost info

i connect my two laptops with a lan cable and transfer a 10GB of infos from one to another. i used copy then paste. during the process half of my info got lost 3 folders were missing. i tried to use the restore function and set to a earlier time and got the folders back, but they were all empty. anyone know how to fix this one
