I added an IBM 15GB harddrive to our main PC for backup storage and to hold the cache and swap files from the main drive. The system is custom built based on a Duron 950 and running Windows 98.
The problem I am having is that after multiple attempts to partition this drive into 13GB+ Primary partition (d:)and an Extended partition with 500+MB(ea) Logical drives f: and g:, the system will partition the drive and assign the corresponding drive letters; but when I try to format the drive(s) I can do d: and f:, but not g:! It disappears and I get an “invalid drive” error message! G: has, on occasion surfaced in Windows Explorer but promptly disappears again after a reboot. Norton Disk Doctor detects it’s presence and asks if I want to recover it but can’t. Norton System Information tells me that there is a drive there and gives full specifications for it but the system cannot “see” it or access it.
I have repartitioned this drive approximately two dozen times. What can I do/run to fix this problem?
