Lost my 256 colors

I re-intalled w98 and now NONE of my programs such as Internet, games , install disks show the correct colors. I hvae tried everything that I could read about out on the WWW. And it is still not helping, Has my video display card died? It was working fine before I did a reload. Any sugestions out there… I am ready to go buy a new PC…
