LOST MY PDC, I’m a dummy, please help

by lester . Updated 19 years, 4 months ago

I had a junk server running on my network that was acting as my PDC. I bought a new one and replaced the old one which I wanted to use as a workstation. Dummy me did not dcpromo the pdc and releive it from its duty and I dcpromo’d the new server to find out that I have no internet and cant access mapped drives etc…and the other computers are just out there.

I have another DC that never really took over once i removed the old one. However I do see that when my new server is online (which I named the same as the one I removed) I can access the the internet on all machines and I can access mapped drives.

i opened the back up DC and there is an exact duplicate of my Active Directory which I had in the PDC. However it just is not taking over for some reason. Any way can I copy the active directory into my new PDC?

I renamed this new server identically to the old one can I just somehow get it to go back to the old one or do I have to make all new users and disconnect all the machines from the old domain and just start a new one?
