Lost Sound

Help please!

An Acer Aspire laptop with Vista has suddenly lost all sound. Device Manager reports everything working. Volume is not muted. Think this possibly dates from either a Windows update or Microsoft Office Professional 2003 SP3, but can’t be sure. Anyone out there with any ideas?
