lost wireless connection

a month ago lost wireless connection on one desktop. after unsuccessfully trying to fix it contacted linksys. after trying numerous fixes they suggested changing from wpa security to wep. it worked but now i am not as secure nothing was changed on my desktop can i have wpa and still communicate with my router? the other computers on the network are ok and this one was ok before. all pcs os win xp
