thanks for reading this.

I know that in notes, if you accidentally lose the user id, even if you have the server id and cert.id, you will still lose all that user data permanently, is that correct ?

Can notes be configurated like normal server, which I have the admin password (or id) and could save the data for the user?

Its true that once u loose a id u cannot re create it.

BUT u can recover back the data the user was using. Just open the database on the server as local file ( just double click the .nsf file on the server drive) next add your id to the current ACL ( File menu ->database-> ACL). That should solve the problem.

I could not understand the second part , can u pls explain what excatly u want.

Most notes admins keep a second copy of all ID files and their passwords. In R4 one way of this automatically is by creating a user called 'Escrow Agent'. All new id files will be sent to this users account along with their password.

In R5 the Escrow Agent does not work the same way. What you have to do is go into the administration client and in the configuration tab you can 'add recovery info' to the certifier ID file. Then when new id's are created using this certifier the id file will be sent to the account specified while adding the recovery info.

In answer to your question about recovering the data, you can indeed open the database on the server and add somebody else into the ACL but any documents that were encrypted with the original ID file will not be recoverable.

Hope this helps.

There is 2 way to recover the user database if you loose the ID files.

1. You can open the user database from the server and add your name to the ACL.

2. You can create a new ID for that particular user but if he/she encrypt her email, this method will not work.

Hope this helps
