Lotus Notes email

User on dialup setup with W2k machine and all works well apart from inability to email from his Notes Client. Receives email OK but receives timeout message when trying to send or replicate when dialled up to network. Worked OK prior to change to W2K and updated to latest Notes version.
What is causing the timeout? Is there some settings in W2K that control this?
