Lotus Notes Server dying periodically

By sed55 ·
Our Lotus Notes service will periodically die with a message window that reads "Application Error in Program: nomsgcnv.exe

We find when this happens that the SNMP service, as well as the Lotus Notes service is stopped. After restarting these services, we seem to run fine until the next occurance.

What can be causing this?

We are running Notes 4.6.2 server on a WinNT server 4.0, Service pack 5. Notes is the only app running on this server.

Thanks
Dennis

Try upgrading the service pack to SP6a. This SP6a is very much compatible with NT server running Lotus Notes 4.5 and above.
It should resolve the problem.

There are a lot of possible causes for this error but most of them relate to the smtp of domino.
Thsi is what i would suggest: Reinstalle the domino software. Just make sure you reinstall in the same directories and the configuration will not be lost. It will take you 15 min to do this. Most likely you have a corrupt file. This should solve it. I would also advice to install the latest patches: service pack 6a and the latest patches from lotus ( so that the version is 4.6.7) If this doesn't work try taking a look at support.lotus.com. There are a lot of entries about nomsgcnv.exe
