      Hi,

Fujitzu MPC3032AT is an ATA33 harddrive. All ATA33 harddrive is factory low-level formatted. It is not necessary to low-level format the drive.

If your computer has AMI or Award BIOS, you can use Low-level Format Utility stored in ROM-BIOS. Press Del key when you restart your computer and you can find the utility in the menu.

If your computer doesn’t have Low-level Format utility, you can find the (demo version) utility in http://www.ami.com, or http://www.award.com, or http://www.symantec.com.

      Hopethis info can help you.

Go to the Hard Drive manufacturers site & download the free
utility that most have , to help you get your HD the way you want .
      ( Including ghosting , writing to 0’s )

      Fujitsu’s is OnTrack DiskGo ,

The only way I have found to correctly low level format an IDE drive is to use the utility provided by the manufacturer. Last time I looked at Fujitsu’s site I couldn’t find one.

These utilities don’t actually low level format the drive, they write zero’s to it. True low level formatting of drives went out with MFM/RLL drives.

Answer #4 says to use Maxtors util. This is wrong, Maxtors util only works with their drives. Bin there, done that.

The reasons are that different manufacturers use different algorithms for their Logical Block Addressing (LBA) schemes and the drives BIOS contains code which identifies the make, model etc.

If you find one that does work, please let me know.

      Good Luck
      Bruce

Most problems that people associate as needing to fix with low level format can be repaired by erasing the first 10 tracks. Drive Pro has a format function that does that.
