I have a client with a PC that I re-assembled for his use at home. We had replaced hardware in his office and ended up with a functional [but old] Gateway w/ Pent 100 cpu and an “LT Winmodem” (that’s probably not original). I added RAM to 64meg, removed the NIC, added a 4G hard drive, and an old SB-16 sound card. Formatted, and did a clean install of Win98SE, Office97, and some games that he wanted. All parts of the system seemed 100% functional on my bench, including the PCI-Winmodem. He installed AOL (which he has done before) and now has the problem of the PC “locking-up” after it’s on the internet for about 30 minutes. This freeze is so complete that Ctl-Alt-Del doesn’t work, either. He says the system hasn’t stopped when doing anything else, and that it doesn’t seem to matter whether he’s running AOL’s interface or IE5.5 (which I had installed). I had used the driver from Lucent’s Winmodem page when I installed the system. Does this seem like a driver issue? I’m gettingthe PC back next week, so I’m looking for suggestions. TIA, Will
