Mac Networking for my school

by mc_user . Updated 24 years, 2 months ago

I volunteered to help wire some Macs at my children’s grade school. Little did I know that they wanted to set up an ethernet network to 13 rooms in the building, add these machines to the 12 already in the lab and get them all linked to the internet.

I’m pretty sure the Macs are running OS 7.X and are connected back to the server via a simple appletalk network right now. A lot of things need to change, but first I want to tackle the wiring.

I have other volunteers to help me string cable but I am unsure of what wire standards, building codes or fire codes I have to follow. (I’m in Indiana, It’s a 75 year old two story brick building)

Can someone point me in the right direction to get this information?

What I would like to do isget a contractor in for an assessment, have them give us a list of what work we can do ourselves, do the manual labor, then have them come back in and test our installation. Does this sound like a valid plan?
