MacBook won’t turn on after updating to Monterey 12.4

Hey everyone, I recently updated my MacBook (2016-17) to the new Monterey system. Whilst in the restart, my Mac turned off, I waited for it to turn back on and continue the update, but it never did. I’m currently stuck with a macbook that won’t turn on, I have tried to reset pram/nvram, restart smc, and tried to start it up in safe mode but nothing happens. Essentially when I press the power button I hear a zip kinda noise every 8 or so seconds, but the screen is totally black and doesn’t change. Anyone else had this problem? (Or know of any solutions?) I have tried contacting apple support but as expected, they told me to go into their stores which I believe will inevitably lead to them telling me that they’ll need to replace parts and it will cost me a fortune so it’s better to just get a new MacBook since the warranty expired last year.

    Thanks!

To fix the issue of when your Mac won’t boot after the Monterey update, resetting PRAM/NVRAM (hold down the Command + Option + P + R keys at startup) sometimes works.

If resetting NVRAM didn’t solve the “MacBook not turning on after update” problem, try troubleshooting it in Safe Mode.

getting your MBP back into service.
https://appletoolbox.com/macbook-wont-turn-on-monterey/ is one but does involve a trip to the Apple Store where they can revive your MBP without loss of data or the need for new parts.

If you have another Mac running macOS Catalina or later, you can do the whole revive thing yourself.

If your Mac doesn’t seem to turn on after you press the power button, follow these steps.

Make sure that your Mac is connected to AC power. If it doesn’t have a built-in display, make sure that your external display is connected to power, connected to your Mac, and turned on.
Press and hold the power button on your Mac for at least 10 seconds, then release.
Every Mac has a power button. On notebook computers that have Touch ID, press and hold Touch ID.
If you see no change on your Mac, press and release the power button normally.

      Greeting,
      Rachel Gomez
