Machine will not boot up..replace disk??

By hoochdaddie ·
When trying to boot up getting a message...
"Invalid system disk. Rreplace the disk, and press any key"

There is no floppy in the machine.
We've shut off, and tried again, still same message.
Tried using windows startup disk, ran scandisk.. repaired some errors...still not any difference.

when attempting to open a c: promt through the startup disk.. get this error
"cdr101:not ready reading drive H
abort, retry, fail?"

any help would be appreciated...

Sounds like you lost your hard drive. Try downloading diag. software from the hard drive manufacturer. Check if it can be repaired. Is it under warranty yet. normally 3 years. IBM replaced one for me after jumping through all there hoops.

Good Luck

this has happened to me before. just check your IDE and power connecrions to the Hard Drive. remove cables, check ports for dust, and put cables back. that should work. if not, use different cables and try again.

If all the previous suggestions fail, try to place the drive into another machine as the slave drive. If you can still access the data, copy it over to a new drive using powerquest's drive copy or something similar, your disk is probably pooched...or at least the mbr is.
Good luck!

check bios to make sure that you are booting from the hd. but more likely make sure that the jumpers on all of the ide drives are set. if on a cable, one is set to line whatever the other is set to may be ignored or cause a conflict.
