Hi, rather than trying to figure out what installed or did not through dos, it would be better to use a boot disk and try to boot up the machine so you can do something like run regclean to get rid of loaded fragments (regclean is available on microsoft's site. If you do not have a boot disk, you can download one at www.bootdisk.com Hope this helps.

I must assume that you are running win98, if that is the case, you can boot from a win98 boot disk and ran "scanreg /restore" from the windows directory. This will give you the option of restoring the registry back toa a previous days registry. Win98 will backup the last 5 days registries, assuming you reboot everyday. If you are running win95 scanreg /restore is not an option, you might want to refer to "Q131431 How to Troubleshoot Registry Errors " from the Microsoft knowledge base. This article can be found at http://support.microsoft.com

Well, I'd really like to have more information to go on. What kind of error messages? OD/OE? does it mention VMM? Try starting in safe mode, and remove the sound card from device mgr. If you're getting VMM errors, try this site. . http://www.infinisource.com/techfiles/vmm32.html

Try using the system boot disk if you have one available,if system boots from the disk, then you want to run scan disk, boot the system into safe mode and remove the sound card through device manager, now reinstall the card and follow on screen instructions.

You have to start through safe mode, at least. Go to device manager, click on the device, if it exists, click on properties, click on the driver tab and click on driver file details button. There it will list the files that are being used by this hardware. Write them down and delete them from dos.

If you can't find the device in device manager, examine your driver disk/cd and look at the files that it installs. Extrapolate the filename extension (ie. driver.sy_ is driver.sys and thing.ex_ is thing.exe) and find them (using dir /s) and delete them.

If that doesn't work because they are all buried in some type of resource file (.cab or whatnot) then restore your registry as noted above in someone else's letter, or if you're using Win95, copy system.da0 to system.dat (backup system.dat just in case), and that will restore your registry to its previous settings. Granted, they may be no good because you have already rebooted a couple of times, but it's worth a shot.

Try removing the devices in sa
