I have a G3 in which the CDRom stopped working. When I removed it, I could hear parts inside the case, so I pitched it. I have tried several other CDRoms, but can't get them to work. I can see them as an ATAPI device in Disk Utilities, but I can'tseem to use them. Do I need a driver? Any other suggestions? Thanks!

Believe it or not, you do have to have a driver. A Macintosh will not take just any drive. If it is an Apple drive, no problem. Otherwise, you HAVE to have a Macintosh driver to use it. The system will indeed see the drive, but won't know what to dowith it. Good luck!!
