macro security in word 2000

By steven ·
I cannot save as without being told that the macro cannot be found or my macro security is not set correctly. i change the macro security level to lowest to no avail. How can I correct this? I have tried to delete all the macros in my normal.dot, but i cant save this because i get a message from word that normal.dot is already open and cant be modified. I seem to be in a vicious circle.

Steve,
Make sure Word is closed and search your drive for normal.dot and delete any that you find. If you have a problem deleting one, right click on it and check Properties for a read only attribute and remove it. Then delete Word's "data" key from the registry.
Make sure Word is closed. Go into regedit and follow this path HKEY_Current_User /
Software / Microsoft / Office / Current Version / 8.0 (or 9.0 if Office 2000) / Word. Under the Word folder you should see a Data folder. Highlight that folder on the left side, and right click and delete it. Close regedit and open Word.
