Magically Reappearing Files

By bobrace ·
Like all my users, this user has a mapped drive G: on our network. In keeping with good house-cleaning, all users are require to periodically delete unused files from this drive. For some reason when this user deletes files, one or two days later, they reappear. I thought he was maybe doing something wrong, but I watched him and I even did it myself and they came back. What the heck is going on?

If the documents are being stored in the users profile, for example under Documents & Settings\%username%\Desktop or \My Documents, the profile has probably gotten too large to save back to the server. The user is then removing the document from the local profile which does not save back to the server due to its size. When the user logs in again, the old profile with the documents still in it from the server comes back. Have the user move all documents directly to a data folder on G drive, remove them from the profile folder and have him/her logout. This should clean up the problem. Office defaults to the profile My Documents on saves. Its fine for home PCs but not Networks.

How do I stop this this syncing from happening. When he deletes files from C, they also get deleted from G.
