If you are good at soldering then takeout another ram slot from..

Another motherboard (making sure it is the same format) and solder the new slot back in. Easy when you know how. Yes i have done it, and it has saved me a few bob.

Please post back if you have any more problems or questions.

If the new RAM that you have purchased doesn't work in that Slot

by OH Smeg Moderator In reply to mahe

Try it in another one and see if it works there. Remove the existing RAM and test again on the M'Board and if it works now but not when the original RAM is in place you have a Timing Issue between the different RAM.

If it doesn't work at all the RAM is incompatible with your M'Board and you need to get the right spec RAM for your M'Board.

RAM Sockets failing are very rare but Incompatible RAM is far more common so you need to first eliminate that RAM to see if the Socket is actually Faulty. Also look in the socket for any rubbish or other stuff that has been forced into the Bottom of it and remove with a piece of Plastic or Caned Air. Do Not Stick a bit of metal into the socket as this will destroy it.
