I have a small buisness that does about 80% of its sales on-line 2007, that being leads generated & mails sent or replied. (They use Earthlink spam blocker software..what a joke about 200spam daily and most are not blocked).
All the employees also have admin rights on each computer their behind.
The buisness took off and was never properly set up as a VPN, they just keept adding comps from bestbuy and running cable. All the employees even have administrator rights on the computers.
I now have controll over this issue and have started by purchasing a sonic firewall router & a buffalo terra stationlive.
Im starting to redirect some mail to gmail & thunderbird to find out where all the spam comes from (trying to single out spammers) & im just watching the mail a bit. Though all the sales leads still come in from Earthlink.
The website displays the eamil addys rite on their home page (Im working on a redesign) I will be using a form for customers to fill out on the website to contact us (not showing our email address)
Besides removing everyone from Admin rights, adding avast and doing a deep scan from boot, & adding spywareblaster our some of my first steps, along with using k-lite on each comp.
Before i drop the earthlink mail service and before i go live with my site & server (my server has remote acess for 5 visitors we are going to use that sometimes for customers to get HQ pics) I was looking for advice on the best way to handle the email issue. I have a seperate account with charter but i know their spammblocker software sucks too, I use it personally.
My question is where do i go from here? can i add something like squirell mail to my server? how can i use the opensource software to manage my mails spam before sending to pcs without knowing linyx? Anything thats very easy to install and maintain or train in opensource? Thanks Ray
