Can I make a mailing list in outlook 2000 from a group of contacts so that the individual, and not the mail list, is availalable to the recipient

Yes you can do it.
Open outlook and press Ctrl+Shift+L
in the window type a name for your List and
add the adresses you want to the list and save. Thats all

You can create a personal distribution list in your Personal Address book. File, New Entry, Personal Distribution List, Add/Remove Members.

If I understand your question, you are trying to hide the mailing list from the recipients. To accomplish this, put the list in the BCC field instead of the TO field when you send the email.

If there is nothing in the TO field, the recipient will get the mail as addressed to "Undisclosed Recipients".

there is no bcc field in outlook 2000
