Mainframe - file aid - edit VB file

By nagumotu32 ·
I have a sequential file created as variable block. the record lenth max is 1000. (allocated as 1004)
One of the record in the file is 1200. i want to add some more char at the end and make it as 1250 char.
how i change the record length of a perticular record.
the record length of a record (first 4 char) is not visible in file aid.
pls give me your suggestion.

You can't do it on the existing file, as the LRECL is 1004, from what you are saying. You need to copy the file to another Sequential file with an LRECL of 1254 (let the system do the blocking, it would be inefficient to set the blocksize to 1258), then use FileAid Edit as per normal. One thing you mention puzzles me - you can't have a 1200 byte record when the LRECL is 1004. Are you sure the LRECL isn't 1204?
