I have 3 machines that are displaying some very strange problems; 2 Win 98 and one Win 2000.
First, the two Win98 machines.
The hard drive in one machine stopped (#1) booting; one of my colleagues moved that drive to another machine, copied offthe vital programs and then reformatted that drive. #2 then “inherited” the same problem (i.e. it would get to the PCI device listing with a blinking cursor and just sit there where you expect “starting win 98” message. This made me think “virus” but I can’t find one, even with clean boot disks and latest updates.
Stranger still, if you use HHD #1 in machine #2 and vice versa, they WILL boot, but not when the HDD goes back into it’s rightful machine…
Any ideas?
With the Windows 2000machine (#3), it stopped booting; after several reboots, it eventually started loading, but had problems loading the NTFS drivers and had a STOP error. There was another error (which I neglected to write down and have forgotten); phoned someone up and they suggested using the fix utilities on the 2000 CD. No Joy.
Stranger yet, I can’t even format the drive; it gets to completely formatted and then says it can’t format the drive – and the same with a brand new drive.
I’m mystified!
Any solutions?!
Thanks!
James.
