    Major internet Speed Discrepancy

Hey guys, to start, I pay for 1Gbps download speed, fibre. I have never reached even a tenth of this speed in the 2 years I’ve had it. I’ve had technicians to the house 3 times and each time they have told me they don’t know what is wrong. Honestly I’d be happy with a tenth of the speed, on speedtest, I reach a maximum of 24.14 Mbps down and 85.70 Mbps up. I am wired to the router with cat6 and I’m using the router they supplied. If there is a way to fix this I’d love to know, and if not, I’m wondering if I can pay for a cheaper package and still get the speed I have now. Thank you in advance!

Well speedtest is just a test of speed to a particular destination and not a true test of your internet speed. You may have a 1gb pipe, but your speed will depend on the maximum performance of your hardware. Your router, switch, WiFi, and computer(s) will all play a part. Usually you won’t actually use 1gb unless you have hundreds of computers using your connection, not just one or two. If you feel your are getting less then you are paying for and you aren’t having any issues I would say pay less for lower speed.
