Make changes in Windows2000 pro !!

By edmond_sng ·
HI,

How do I make changes on windows2000 Pro so that the changes apply to every users who logged onto that workstation. (Ie: If an administrator map a network drive on windows 98 workstation, every users who use that workstation will be able touse that Mapped network drive.) I am not sure whether I can achieve the same result with win2K pro. Or I just have to get every users to log on and make changes in his/her user profile??? Any suggestion would be very helpful as I would be doing arather major upgrade on the network soon.

Look forward to hearing from you.

Regards,
Edmond

Greetings

I take it you are not using roaming profiles?.
So every user needs to be set up on the W2K PC.
Having created your standard user profile having access to certain resources and mapped drives. Now create the other profiles as normal andwhen you have finished use User Profiles .
Right click on My Computer > Properties > Users Tab and copy the standard user profile you set up first to the others in turn. You will see when this has been done ok by the size of the user file shown inthe box.

Good Luck
Andy

-logon with this new account and make all needed settings.
-logon local with admin rights
-browse and find this new profile and copy over all users profile.
For network:
-use a login script (a batch file) placed in your NETLOGON share. This script will run on all workstation.
About map a network drive in a login script. Enter this command in your batch file:

You need to create a custom default profile. Microsoft KB article q305709 explains in detail how to do this. To find the article go to http://support.microsoft.com
