make my desktop (secure) ?

By tazdevil34 ·
I have Windows 2000 on my puter at work. Whenever I leave my desk for anything ie...lunch, meeting, etc... When I return someone has moved, removed or messed with my icons, also has been browsing the web on "inappropriate" sites. This is really worrying me. I have asked our IT person and he is no help. Is there a way that I can I make my pc secure without having to completely turn it off everytime I walk away from my desk? Any help would surely be appreciated.

well this sounds a little strange. Security is one of the reasons why windows 2000 was developed. Your profile on windows 2000 is meant for you and only you, evn your net admin will have to do a little "magic" to get into it.
Anyway dont let me bore you with stories. all you have to do when you wish to leave you box and you dont want anyone to tamper with it is press CTRL+ALT+DEL and press the return {enter} key.
this makes you lock your system.
I hope this helps

Windows2K has a facility to 'Lock' your workstation, keeping all the applications running in the background.
You can lock your pc by pressing CTRL+ALT+DEL and choosing "Lock the Workstation" Here, I assume that you dont share your login passwords with others.
Hope this helps.

Here's an easier way to lock down your machine:

Right click on your desktop and select New/Shortcut in the popup box asking for location type EXACTLY: rundll32 user32.dll,LockWorkStation
when prompted for a name just call it Lock Workstation. You'll now have an icon on your desktop you only need to double click to lock your machine. To make it only a one click operation just move the icon to your quick launch bar.
