Make Net Enabled Dos Boot disk

by ehoffman In reply to Make Net Enabled Dos Boot ...

I need one boot disk as such for Win98, and one for Win2000....unless the easy answer is to create their version of a boot disk and edit the autoexec to do the automated routine we need for ghosting....

To boot the network from DOS you need to create a disk with the NDIS2 drivers for your network card and run all the net commands to configure and connect to the network.

The easiest way to do this is to use NCADMIN, which is on the NT4 Server CDand will run under 2000 (but it is not on the 2000 CD).

To install it in 2000: 1) Create a folder NCADMIN 2) Copy ncadmin.* from I386 directory of NT server disk 3) From the command prompt type expand -r ncadmin.* 4) copy the Clients folder fromthe NT CD and share it

Then you run ncadmin and choose 'Make network installation startup disk'

Then select Use exisiting shared directory, input the machine name and the clients share name

Then choose Network Client v3.0 for DOS, and choose your adapter.

If your adapter is not in that list, refer to http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q128/8/00.asp

for instructions on how to add drivers to NCADMIN

Once the disk is created you can modify the autoexec.bat andtake out the map to clients and run your own net use commands to map the drives you want.

Also u can refer
http://support.microsoft.com/support/kb/articles/Q142/8/57.asp

Good luck
